Robbers shot dead journalist, Policeman in bank raid

Robbers have attacked a bank leaving behind a policeman, journalist and one other person dead in Ilara Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Three other persons were reportedly hit by stray bullets have been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

The criminals reportedly struck around 3:00pm on Thursday, shooting sporadically on their way into the bank, and escaping with huge sums of money.

Asides the policeman, the other two victims were identified as Bunmi Afuye, a journalist and staff of Elizade University and one commercial motorcyclist.

Spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Tee-Leo Ikoro confirmed the attack on the bank.

He said, ‘Three persons including the Public Relations Officer of a private University in the State, Mr. Bunmi Afuye, have been reportedly shot dead by some armed robbers, while attacking an old generation bank at Ilara-amokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

“The armed robbers had trailed one of the bank customers who was there to deposit some huge amount money, and shot dead the policeman guarding the bank where he was hiding.

“Having snatched the money, the robbers while escaping shot a motorcycle rider passing by.

“The criminals headed towards old Ilara/Akure Road and in the process saw the varsity spokesman driving towards the same direction they were going and shot him dead.

Sources revealed that the robbers escaped through Ikota Road shooting sporadically to scare people and prevent anyone from pursuing them.

Information has it that Bunmi Afuye was a journalist working with the state-owned radio, Orange FM before he lately secured the appointment at the varsity.
